Ketchikan Youth Facility
Ketchikan, Alaska
The Ketchikan Youth Facility collocates a small residential housing unit for emotionally disturbed youth with a short-term holding facility for pre adjudicated juveniles. This combined use establishes a larger and more efficient client-base housed in three independent, but united, environments. The design achieved sight and sound separation, yet a feeling of openness and comfort for the population housed there. Four single occupant cells are provided for detention use. Similar mental health rooms are also provided with appropriate differences, such as less security since they are not housed under court order. A common observation area, administration, intake, support, and other related spaces, joins the separate wings.
